new website is on its way

I've realized for some time now that it has been three months since I last wrote. Today, Saturday, I have spent every waking moment on this new website. Ever since I discovered the ability to embed fonts into my site without having to rely on my audience having those fonts installed, I have been coding away. And here it is, about a third finished: http://missyj.net/ (opens in a new window) I started with the concept last night, in the middle of the night. I woke up, took out a sketchpad, and quickly drew some scribbles down. Then, this morning, I fired up Photoshop and starting piecing together elements and laying it all out. The home page photo was taken while I was walking Maggie to Lafayette Park near by. It's not the most breathtaking website in the world, but I have been putting off doing this for a long, long time. Also, this is only the third or fourth website I've actually laid out in Photoshop first, which I have recently found to be the best way for me to visualize and freely create what it is I'm picturing. I can't believe I used to just code-as-I-go. It's wonderful to have a perfectly laid out image, which uses one part of the brain, and then to focus a completely different part of the brain to execute that layout into code. I still have some work to do, but it's time to head to bed.
